This list includes all of the bird species we saw in or from the yard between April 1, 2010, and August 26, 2016, when we sold the house and down-sized to an RV to travel.
The yard was almost one acre, a rural property north of Tucson in the unincorporated town of Catalina. It had mostly native vegetation such as Velvet Mesquite, Palo Verde, Desert Broom, Acacia, Graythorn, Prickly Pear, Cholla, and native grasses and groundcover. A small dry wash ran through the back third of the property, creating a nice little microclimate. There were also fruit trees (apple, jujube, peach, & plum) and garden beds for flowers and vegetables. While we provided a variety of food options for the birds, as well as water, many species never came into the front yard where those were situated.
Big Wash was just over a mile west of us and the foothills of the northern end of the Catalina Mountains began about four miles to the east of us. The views were awesome and proximity to the mountain foothills and peaks brought falcons our way on occasion. I sadly never managed to spot a Golden Eagle to add to the yard list.
Species List from 4/1/10 to 8/26/16 in taxonomic order. Final total is 106.
